Montana Broadcasting History
Butte was a wide open mining town when a young wholesale radio parts saleman from Spokane stopped in the city in 1927. E.B. Craney liked what he saw in Butte and was determined to construct a radio broadcasting station in the community. Craney's decision opened a colorful and important aspect of Montana radio broadcasting history. Twenty-one years later, in 1948, he would be recognized as the giant in state broadcasting, operator of five radio stations within the state, and creator of the state's first "regional network." (Thanks to "History of Radio Broadcasting In Montana" by Ron Richards.)
